In the last two months, we've shared stories about Peter Kaestner and his quest to be the 1st person to record 10,000 bird species. Last week, Peter came to the Boston area and spoke as a guest of the Nuttall Ornithological Club, the oldest ornithological club in America. During his visit, Peter Alden hosted him for lunch before his talk in Cambridge: “Peter Kaestner and his Search for 10,000 Species of Birds in the World.” Peter grew up with a strong interest in birds, attended Cornell University, spent two years in Zaire with the Peace Corps, and then became a career diplomat, being assigned to 20 different countries where he got to see a great many birds.
